IR Cameras
« on: August 10, 2017, 12:52:52 pm »
Has anyone played around with iPhone mounted IR cameras for flying IFR?  I see the 30K systems in newer planes and they look like they'd give you a huge boost in situational awareness and just wondering if the smaller portable units are useful in fog or not.

Thanks,

Glenn

You can't win an argument with an ignorant person,  they'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I was all over it a few years ago, but then realized they probably can't "see" through the windscreen, so need to be somehow mounted externally. Not sure of this, but seems to be reasonable that it can't look past a thermo barrier like a windscreen.
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

You want something like this:

I've seen demonstrations of it, and it's kind of neat, but not something I ever felt was worth the money. Where it really makes sense is if you have a HUD, but that's not happening any time soon!

I don't see Commander on their list of STCs, but I'm sure it wouldn't be all that hard.

A guy who owns an Aerostar I know had that system 337's onto his Aerostar, despite not having an STC for the type. So shouldn't be impossible to install.
