1979 Shrike For Sale
« on: July 20, 2016, 12:41:34 am »
Looking for a 500?  Here's your bird. That's right, one of the last 3 produced, currently "advertised" here only here:

1979 500S highlights include:
- Engines only 175/350 SMOH
- 7,350 TTSN
- spar cap replaced eliminating significant AD inspection
- Freon Air
- dry country based, hangared, non-deiced
- excellent paint, average interior

Garmin 430 WAAS
Garmin SL 30
Garmin SL40
Radar RT 131A
WX 500 Stormscope
Avidine Flight Max MFD
Garmin 330 Transponder
KN 64 DME
Century III Autopilot
KI 525 Slaved HIS
Electric Trim

Aircraft has permanent spar, AD 94-04-14 does not apply.  The following equipment is added after the factory:

Recognition Lights
Pulselights
Wing Tip Strobe Lights
Lower Belly Beacon
Freon Air Conditioning
100 Amp Alternators
Thick Tinted Cabin Windows
Frameless Front Side Vent Windows
JPI Engine Analyzer

Asking price will be $339,000 (Vref book).  I encourage offers as this plane will be sold to the in the coming months rather than sitting on the market forever.

Panel equipment may be modified to add GTN750 or other equipment of buyer's choice as panel reconfiguration will be part of the sale.  The aircraft is operating on a forest service contract with longer flights and lower powered loitering typical operation. Availability of the plane is subject to the end of the contract, expected in about 60 days. Photos and more details coming soon.

Please give me a call anytime with questions and for more info. Other Shrikes available and please keep in mind that I will certainly consider selling my extremely well equipped, service center maintained, 500B Shrike-alike in order to move up to this Shrike.

Thank you - Bruce - 309-397-2525

Thanks - I think so.  They have replaced old lines behind the panel and aggresively maintained the plane with things like starters and other components on a regular schedule way over and above the MM.  If you had a free Shrike it would cost more to do the engines, spar, air conditioning and compact props than the asking price.

Sounds like a great airplane! An airplane which is flying and properly maintained is always the way to go.

I am believing you, Bruce!  However, that said, I already have my 500B, and am continuing to pour money into it.  I do love the plane!

Just think how good it would look in your beautiful hangar Don.  Big and little.  ;)

Or maybe we can get Kevin M or Norm R up your way back to their roots!

Shrike or 500B - who is looking?   I have at least 6 to choose from which are all flying airplanes with a current history of high quality maintenance.  No hangar queens.  You can fly one for under $200,000.

Sure, a T-Bone is cheaper. And I see there's kind of a T-bone cult forming.  If you flown them both you'll wonder what the fascination is with a much slower, smaller cabin and baggage plane with high maintenance and fuel consumption engines and common lack of autopilot and certainly freon air.  Cool planes but without Commander utility for most missions.

Barons? Love them too but no aisle, less baggage, less space, Continentals, And at normal economy cruise, the 500 performs just about the same.

Let's fly!

Why so many on the market? Is the Forest Service starting to phase them out, or cut back on using them? I can't imagine what would replace them.

I was in Lewiston ID with the 980 the other day, parked next to two 500s on fire duty.

Yes. Turbines are in fashion now.

Would someone buy this plane before I do please  8)

The last of the Shrikes with a spar.  Current, flying, dry country, recent engines.  Avionics to suit. Someone is going to get a great deal here.
