Distance
« on: January 09, 2024, 08:51:41 am »
Happy new year to everyone.  After seeing DonVs US tour, curious what is the longest leg anyone has taken their Commander?
My old man would talk about the early 80's (pre RVSM) of going direct from Las Vegas to PHL @ 35,000.
Drug running doesn't count- where the passenger compartment filled with gas is not eligible!

I won't win this one, since my 980 is both limited to FL280 and only has 2850 pounds of fuel.

When I used to fly 1000s back in the pre-RVSM days, we rarely (never?) went further than HIO-PSP.

Seems a few years back a guy departed with family from upper west coast and made it to Naples, Fl. non-stop.
Made the news but I do not recall the model of Commander.

I used to say Seattle to Miami as Hillsboro to Lauderdale didn’t have as nice a ring to it. I just looked, I could likely do it today in the 840.

FL350 at 58gal/hr in a Jetprop. 487 gal capacity, right? How long to get up there? 20 min at 80gal/hr? That's about 7.30hrs after climb at altitude with 45min reserve. Let's say its a good day and you true 300kts. That's 2300nm, so I think 2000nm should be doable without having sphincter tightening for the last hour.
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

482 with 474 usable.  It just depends on the tailwind and LRC.

Tailwind is always key.  Per picture, only 1200 miles, but got killed by headwind for 5+hrs.   Have to assume with gulfstream- somewhere in S. California to like a Boston has to be a winner for someone?

I think that one would be hard to beat. They must have had an impressive tailwind.
