Needs engines, but I imagine Norm could fix you up. I think she's been running on rental engines for a while, so that might be an option as well.

You know, Glenn, in a lot of ways this airplane might be perfect for you. Inexpensive, well maintained, already set up with decent avionics. Get some mid-time engines (or, with the amount you fly, maybe go with rental engines) and you'd be set.

Except that before I could fly it the first time I'd have $750k in it :-)

Why? You could either buy some mid-time engines, or better yet, just rent them by the hour.

I think we over-estimate how many used engines are on the market. Yes, the -251's are probably the most likely to be available, but still not plentiful. The upgrade path to -10's, makes -5's into -10's, so not like an exchange takes place where the old one hits the market. And those that do hit, the crop dusters tend to buy. I basically very rarely see many used TPE's of any kind on the open used market, seems like they get sold long before that. But you can certainly rent. And that might not be a bad option.
Slumming it in the turboprop world - so you don't have to.

So 300k for airplane
15-20k for gear overhaul
50k for prop overhauls
15 k for wing spar inspection
20 k for engine removal and installation per side?
10-15 k for 150 hour inspection

And all of that is if nothing else is found wrong and we all know how that goes

Don't me wrong.  I would love to have the plane but think adams is a better deal in the end.  Not that I have decided what todo yet anyway

I wouldn't want to talk you out of Adam's airplane. So if that's in the mix, then go for it.

On Aero Air's airplane, for anyone who is looking, the smart thing to do is to ask Norm to give you a price with everything done. Since they can do the work in-house, and they've been operating the airplane for many years, that shouldn't be an issue. Actually, if it were me, I'd ask for three prices: inspections done, inspections done and engines overhauled, and inspections done and Dash 10 conversion.

Then, get them to throw in initial training-- they have some excellent Commander instructors. Put your wife up at the Allison Inn in Newberg, and have her (and you) take your son to the Evergreen water park.
